MAGAZINE DARTICLE: GameFace, The Geon
By David Schaap
In 2020, the pinnacle of off-the-shelf competition foam dart blasters was arguably a blaster you may have never seen, and maybe never heard of. The 'Prime' was hitting 120 FPS out of the box (a hefty boast in 2020), was easy to maintain, had smooth operation, played well with aftermarket mod parts, had a reasonable price tag, and struggled to sell what seemed like even a single unit. Fast forward to three years later, and GameFace was back, with a 'ven-geon-ce' (see what we did there?). After a highly anticipated and successful launch of it's competition ready 'Trion' blaster, GameFace was poised to release their first geared-to-pros sidearm the 'Geon'....or were they?
While the success and adoption of the Trion in the hobby of adult nerfing was undeniable, The Geon seemed to be cursed with marketing and distribution problems, at least at the start. While obscure mentions to the blasters existence have existed on the GameFace website for quite some time, few foam flingers have actually seen one in the wild. Blasters popped up for sale unannounced on Amazon, and reportedly Target as well, but after a small handful of purchases, the items were quickly removed. Our blaster was sold to us from a small mom and pop shop through Amazon, and after a couple of weeks of waiting, we received a message saying our order was cancelled and refunded due to a lack of stock; the listing had since been removed. But then, a few weeks after the bad news, the blaster showed up at our doorstep with zero explanation.
As far as form, GameFace seems to have picked another winner. A sleek, mag-in-grip design makes for a powerful yet manageable package. Regarding function, some users have reported that priming the blaster leaves a bit to be desired, with the priming handle being a bit tough to grab. Overall the Geon seems to perform as promised, just maybe not delivered that way? We don't want to sound ungrateful, in fact we're huge fans of GameFace! This article comes from a place of love and concern, not anger or frustration. What happened, and is everything ok? We ask for the selfish reason of hoping they will produce more amazing products and blasters, and continue to support and elevate this hobby.

While we were unable to obtain any clarity on what seemed like a bit of a clumsy blaster launch, the GameFace official website now includes a listing for the Geon, but still denotes that they are "coming soon."
